Disaster Recovery Home Rebuilding

Dear Friend of 8 Days of Hope,
Eight Days of Hope was meant to be a one-time visit to the Gulf Coast with a handful of people after Hurricane Katrina. God has allowed this ministry to blossom into so much more! On five different occasions thousands of volunteers have descended on the Gulf Coast to minister to people needs and help them put their lives back in order after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. We also recently had our first non-disaster relief effort in Tupelo, Mississippi. We partnered with Global Outreach as they complete their offices where they will train and equip missionaries before they depart across the world spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ!
For our sixth disaster-related trip we will be ministering to the people of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, following the flooding that has affected over 4,000 homeowners this past June. 8 Days of Hope VI will be visiting our country’s heartland as we try to help hundreds of these homeowners in this area who did not have any flood insurance and are left without the use of their homes. We will be doing mechanical work, electrical, drywall, carpentry and painting jobs just to name a few.

Some of the highlights from our five trips include:
*4,950 volunteers have participated in these relief efforts!
*8 Days of Hope have remodeled, refurbished or rebuilt 834 homes!
*13,000 pieces of sheetrock have been installed!
*3,200 squares of roofing shingles have been nailed on roofs!
*220 homes have completely or partially been rewired!
*Over 1,700 rolls of insulation have been installed!
*51 homes have been primed and painted!
*340 homes have had extensive carpentry work done!
$7.5 million dollars of labor has been donated through Eight Days of Hope!
As one can see the volunteers from 43 states and multiple countries have showed up to work! In fact over 146,000 man-hours have been worked during these six trips!
The real story behind 8 Days of Hope is the lives of homeowners and volunteers that are being changed forever through these relief efforts. On these four trips our volunteers have come to bless others only to go home feeling like they were the ones being blessed.
In the first book of Peter 4:10, he tells us to use the gifts that God has given us to minister to one another. Eight Days of Hope plans to live this call out during our mission trips to natural disaster areas.
Please continue learning more about this grass roots effort wanting and willing to sacrifice in order to bring hope to those in need. The number 8 means “new beginnings.”
Our prayer is that you will feel called to make a difference with us one home, and more importantly, one life at a time. Help bring a new beginning to families who are feeling hopeless.
May God bless you as you consider how you can make a difference with Eight Days of Hope!
